During Trump inaugural, Flynn greenlighted nuclear project with Russian Federation

Gen. Michael Flynn, former national security adviser to US President Donald Trump leaves Federal Court in Washington DC

Flynn's consulting firm, the Flynn Intel Group, had numerous clients exploring business ventures that would require some involvement from federal government agencies.

Well, today we have another one like it-except with more credibility-since a sitting United States Congressman put the allegation on his letterhead.

"I do not bring this whistle-blower to your attention lightly", Mr. Cummings said.

According to the account detailed in the letter, the whistle-blower had a conversation on Inauguration Day with Alex Copson of ACU Strategic Partners, a company that hired Mr. Flynn in 2015 as an adviser to develop a plan to work with Russian Federation to build nuclear power plants throughout the Middle East. Mr. Flynn served as an adviser until June 2016.

The whistleblower told congressional investigators that Copson boasted that Flynn was "making sure that sanctions would be "ripped up" as one of his first orders of business and that this would allow money to start flowing into the project", an apparent reference to financial sanctions imposed on Russian Federation by the Obama administration, Cummings's letter states.

If this was the extent of the allegations, this is a big 'ol nothingburger.

Cummings also asked Gowdy to subpoena several of Flynn's business partners, related companies and other administration officials.

The unnamed whistleblower said that on Inauguration Day he met with Alex Copson, who had worked with Flynn on the plan.

Mr. Copson is the managing partner of ACU Strategic Partners and was working with General Flynn to promote a joint project with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Arab world.

Copson is the managing partner of ACU, a company that had funded a 2015 trip Flynn took the Middle East that he failed to disclose on security clearance forms. The whistleblower said during a conversation, Copson described his messages with Flynn and briefly flashed one of the texts, which appeared to have been sent 10 minutes after Trump began speaking.

Mr. Copson quickly showed the whistleblower his phone with the text message. The witness could not read the text, but he saw that the time stamp was 12:11 p.m., according Cummings's letter. Cummings said his office could not verify the whistleblower's story, and whether Copson was telling the whistleblower the truth, without subpoenaed documents.

Flynn was involved in the Middle Eastern nuclear project from spring 2015 to the end of 2016, according to recent financial disclosure filings, a period that overlapped with his role as a prominent adviser to Trump's campaign and transition.

President Obama first imposed economic sanctions on Russian Federation in 2014, after Russia's military incursions in Crimea and Ukraine, and again last December to punish Russian Federation for its attempts to disrupt the United States presidential election. "I have spoken to this whistleblower, and I find this person to be authentic, credible, and reliable", Cummings wrote.

Copson then told the whistleblower that Flynn "has been putting everything in place for us" and that the project would "make a lot of very wealthy people".

On Friday, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about conversations he had in December 2016 with the Russian ambassador to the United States about the sanctions, among other topics.

A spokesperson for Gowdy's office did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday, nor did the lawyer who represents ACU Strategic Partners.
