Microsoft showcases first Windows 10 laptops with Qualcomm chips instead of Intel

HP Envy x2, Asus NovaGo 'Always Connected PCs' with Snapdragon 835 SoC, Windows 10 announced

There are now 238 million Xiaomi mobile phones powered by Qualcomm processors.

Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO, Lei Jun, announced at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology summit that their next flagship smartphone will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. Qualcomm didn't disclose how much faster the Snapdragon 845 would be relative to this year's top-of-the-line Snapdragon 835, but that chip was significantly faster than its predecessor when we tested it at the start of 2017 while consuming less power.

Yes, Xiaomi really, really likes Qualcomm. Also, going by the reports, Snapdragon 845 SoC is likely to feature the X20 modem, that will be able to push download speeds up to 1.2Gbps. HP is promising to eke more than 20 hours out of the chip without a charge, and what's more, the Envy x2 and other Snapdragon-powered machines are created to deliver that kind of battery life even though they're always on and come with LTE built in. Tuesday marked the first time the chipmaker has publicly discussed the name of its new processor. The San Jose, California-based company wasn't willing to spill all of the beans just yet - it's hosting a talk exclusively about the Snapdragon 845 on Wednesday - but it gave a tantalizing glimpse of its latest and greatest chip on Tuesday. The company counts Apple Samsung and most of the world's biggest phone makers as its customers, but it's also fighting a fierce legal battle against Apple. That combination seems a bit anemic to us, especially when you consider that some Windows apps designed for Intel-powered machines will not run natively on the Snapdragon processor, instead requiring processor-intensive emulation. At the same time, rival Broadcom is attempting to buy Qualcomm. Microsoft and our partners have led many of these shifts in technology like enabling the original mobile computer - the laptop, navigating with touch, signing in with your face, detaching screens from keyboards, exploring mixed reality, and storing your files in the cloud. HP Envy X2 looks just like the Spectre X2 detachable already available, while Asus' NovaGo is a standard laptop that is visually indistinguishable from the rest of its lineup.

Always Connected PCs are modern Windows 10 devices with Windows Hello, touch, pen and Ink, with thin, light, elegant designs that are more secure, instantly on, always connected with a week of battery life.
