Therefore, consumers will have nothing to fear when they purchase products and services directly from Samsung's new TVs. Dubbed as "The Wall", the enormous screen is comprised ironically of a rather massive array of MicroLEDs.
Also dubbed "The Wall", Samsung's innovative TV uses MicroLED technology to deliver an amazingly rich 146-inch picture. It's modular and can be configured however you like at its biggest, 6 feet by 10 feet.
But a 65-inch foldable TV isn't the only thing that will be showcased at the event as LG is also set to show off its new 88-inch 8K OLED display. Most impressively, it showed a 150-inch version, though that is not yet slated for commercial availability. This comes in handy for consumer applications because each household has varying restrictions on the viewable area on their walls. Samsung claims its modular technology will allow for TVs of customised sizes to be ordered. And doing so won't compromise the display's quality, according to Samsung. But because it is modular, it is much easier to ship and install in a home compared to most of the other very large displays.
The television is expected to hit the market during the second half of 2018. It's probably still a niche technology, but it is interesting. "OLED is clearly a next-generation technology leader and for this reason, LG Display is accelerating its research and development into OLED so that we can provide differentiated products to customers and markets". MicroLED panels are inherently emissive just like the competing OLED TVs, which are the current performance kings.
The proprietary LG OLED technology is designed to deliver perfect blacks thanks to its ability to turn each pixel on or completely off
As the name implies, MicroLED displays comprise several microscopic LEDs, which self-illuminate per display pixel - just like an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panel would, only MicroLED uses inorganic material. Perhaps MicroLED can get brighter; Samsung hasn't specified yet. The first incredible model has a screen that literally rolls up into the TV's base when switched off.
Hisense's Laser TV projector can produce a 140-inch display on a smaller budget, and will cost $US9,999 when it's released in America.
Samsung plans to launch 8K QLED TV later this year, while its rival LG Electronics continues to offer UHD AMOLED TV. Samsung didn't say how all the pieces come together, but the set looked pretty seamless in person. Another issue is that 8k content doesn't really exist yet, so Samsung is saying it's using proprietary AI technology to turn that 4k resolution content into 8k.
