After interviewing with Colts, Rhule decides to stay at Baylor

Matt Rhule

Despite Baylor's struggles, Rhule remains highly regarded as a coach, enough to reportedly interviewwith the Indianapolis Colts for their head coaching vacancy.

Rhule spent 2012 in NY as the offensive line coach for the Giants.

The simple answer is no.

On Thursday, Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades appeared for his weekly segment with ESPN Central Texas, confirming that Rhule isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Rhule made Cooper his first hire after accepting the position December 6, 2016 and leading Temple's Owls to a 20-7 record through two seasons - the best two-season mark in school history.

Rhule, 42, recently completed the first year of his seven-year contract at Baylor University, where the Bears finished with an abysmal 1-11 record.

There's always a surprise candidate for an National Football League head coaching vacancy, and this year that candidate is way off the radar.

According to the Indianapolis Star's Zak Keefer, the Colts have already interviewed Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Seahawks defensive coordinator Kris Richard, Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel, Rhule and former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, who has since been hired by the Chicago Bears.
