Army Day: 3 Jawans Injured in Mishap During Rehearsal

“Material failure” appears to be the reason behind the incident involving AHL Dhruv

The rope that the jawans were using to eject from the helicopter broke and they fell on the ground.

Confirming that the soldiers did not suffer serious injuries, the Army officials added that no slithering operations will be performed on the upcoming Army Day. A video of the entire incident has gone viral on social media. The army jawans are undergoing treatment at Army Hospital Research And Referral in New Delhi, IBT reported.

After three Indian Army soldiers fell off a helicopter during a practice drill, the Indian Army has cancelled the slithering operations which was scheduled to conduct on Army Day parade on January 15.

An inquiry has been called into the matter and the investigation is in progress.

At least three jawans were injured after a rope slipped off ALH Dhruv helicopter during reharsal for Army Day. The slithering operations, which involve troops slipping down a rope usually from a helicopter, is a method used to drop troops in an area of action when a chopper cannot land.

"Slithering operations have been suspended till the cause of accident is known".

The Army Day is celebrated each year on January 15 in recognition of Lieutenant General KM Cariappa's taking over as first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from the last British Commander-in-Chief of India.
