Arsene Wenger confirms talks over Aubameyang-Giroud transfer

It comes as the Gabon star was left out of Dortmund's squad to face Hertha Berlin on Friday (Saturday AEDT) as the German club believe he is "not fully focused".

After an eventful weekend that saw Alexis Sanchez go to Manchester and Henrikh Mkhitaryan come to London, there's news today that another heavily rumored transfer, for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is on the verge of happening.

Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on Thursday night that Aubameyang has agreed personal terms with Arsenal over a three-and-a-half-year contract worth around £8.8m per season.

Asked if he was confident that Aubameyang would be at Arsenal be the end of the month, Wenger said: "Confident or not confident, I don't know. Conflicting statements coming from the French club on this one".

There aren't many elite players in world football desperate for a move to Arsenal at the moment. "Contrast this to the Bordeaux coach, who revealed Malcom is considering an offer from Arsenal".

While the statements continue to send mixed signals, the deal now looks nowhere near completion.

Borussia Dortmund players seem have had enough of the ongoing saga concerning their striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, forward Andre Schuerrle has suggested.

"My understanding is yes". Wenger also publically stated wages are not a problem. Of course [I like him].

"I think that any future club should think twice about taking on a player like that and I can honestly say, I would reject such a player". "I expect it to happen maybe, but I can not announce it because in the next 48 hours it will be decided one way or the other". I felt like he was busy with many things but not this important match. You announce it when it's over the line apart from the deal we've just spoken about Sanchez and Mkhitaryan [that] could happen, yes.
