Cuba condemns Trump's "racist" statements on Haiti, El Salvador

Maryland lawmakers, Mayor Pugh condemn Trump's comments on immigrants

First Baptist Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress defended explicit comments by President Trump, where he referred to Haiti and some African nations as "shithole countries".

Trump is demanding an end to the diversity visa lottery, which to people from countries that send comparatively few immigrants to the USA, many of them in Africa.

Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., one of the lawmakers who attended the meeting, said publicly in comments to reporters and in a subsequent written statement on Friday that Trump's denial was false. █ Trump cancels United Kingdom visit Trump on Thursday cancelled a "working visit" to the United Kingdom planned next month to launch new U.S. embassy, blaming a "bad deal" to relocate base from central London to an "off location".

"In addition to being insulting to us, more importantly it's quite disrespectful and insulting to the people that we're trying to help and the friends and colleagues that we've made there over the last eight years", Furey said in an interview.

Haitian President Jovenel Moise's government issued a strongly worded statement denouncing what it called a "racist" depiction of Haiti.

That "move the needle" argument - that Trump's base would stand by him - was also put forward by other Trump sympathizers in the immediate aftermath of the initial reports of Trump's comments.

Conservative host Tucker Carlson defended Trump's "s***hole" statements saying, "Those places are unsafe, they're dirty, they're corrupt, and they're poor, and that's the main reason those immigrants are trying to come here". "They reinforce abhorrent racist attitudes, and evidence of the lack of knowledge, understanding, and empathy we expect of the person who occupies the highest office in the land".

Trump's insults - along with his rejection of the bipartisan immigration deal that six senators had drafted - also threatened to further complicate efforts to extend protections for hundreds of thousands of young immigrants, many of whom were brought to this country as children and now are here illegally.

"It's too much for an objective journalist to call the president a racist", Graham said.

Trump has denied making the remark (kind of), but it certainly fits right in with his history.

Congressional Black Caucus Chair Cedric Richmond and House Judiciary top Democrat Jerrold Nadler said they would seek to introduce a censure resolution against Trump next week. Trump specifically singled out immigrants from Haiti, saying "Why do we need more Haitians?"

"Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?"

Clinton piled on, bringing up the anniversary of the devastating quake that struck Haiti in 2010 and using it as a club to hit at her former rival.

Despite the criticism, the White House did not walk back the president's remarks.

Trump reportedly used a vulgarity to describe Haiti and African countries according to several reports.

It can be hard to extract concrete policy proposals out of the president's off-the-cuff remarks, so we'll leave that task to his loyal translators.

Most importantly, though, this is an abdication of what the presidency is supposed to be. To no surprise, the president started tweeting this morning, denying that he used those words. "Turns out they're just like us", Cox said in a Tweet that included pictures of his son with a smiling family.

"However, we still think we can get there and we are very focused on trying to make sure that happens", she said.

"Following comments by the President, I said my piece directly to him yesterday". But his campaign was accused of being rooted in racism from the start; calling Mexicans rapists, battling parents of a Muslim soldier killed during war, supporting violence against minority protesters at his rally and vehemently supporting a wall between the United States and Mexico.
