Ford sued over claims of diesel emissions

Dieselgate Hits Ford Lawsuit Says Super Duty Trucks

Another day, another claim of diesel engines not meeting federal emission standards.

Ford is being accused of installing emissions-defeat software in 2011-17 Ford Super Duty pickup trucks that allows the vehicles to emit illegal levels of nitrogen oxide and still pass emissions tests.

The lawsuit, filed by Hagens Berman in the U.S. District Court of Eastern Michigan, says that just like VW, GM, Fiat Chrysler, and Mercedes, Ford had been intentionally selling its F-250 and F-350 trucks that have devices that mask the the release of "illegally high levels of NOx".

The Stuttgart prosecutors launched an investigation over Bosch's emissions dealings with Volkswagen (VW) in 2015 when VW's diesel test-cheating scandal in the United States broke, and in 2017 in relation to alleged emissions irregularities at Daimler.

"All Ford vehicles, including those with diesel engines, comply with all U.S. EPA and CARB emissions regulations", Barbosa said. "We will defend ourselves against these baseless claims".

Ford truck owners filed a lawsuit against the auto company Wednesday claiming it rigged thousands of trucks to beat emissions tests.

Erik Gordon, an expert in entrepreneurship and technology at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, said that if true, the "allegations would expose Ford to the risk of billion-dollar liabilities and punch a hole in its attempts to position itself as a vehicle technology leader". The lawsuit also names automotive parts supplier Robert Bosch GmbH as a defendant, and both companies have denied the allegations.

In a statement Wednesday, Bosch said allegations against the company "remain the subject of investigations and civil litigation" and it takes allegations of diesel software manipulation "very seriously".

The lawsuit, filed on January 10 in the U.S. District for the Eastern District of MI, further claims that the trucks' touted performance, power and towing capabilities are only obtained by switching off or turning down emissions controls when the software senses the vehicle is not in an emissions-testing environment.
