Karni Sena members held while protesting outside CBFC office

Padmavat Will Not Be Released In Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani

A Karni Sena member also met up Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in Dehradun, and asked him not to screen the film in the state. The film is now banned in Rajasthan and is expected to be released in theatres on January 25, 2018.

Mumbai: Additional security personnel were deployed outside the office of Central Board of Film Certification on Friday after Karni Sena threatened to stage a protest against clearance given to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial venture Padmaavat (earlier, Padmavati). Among the suggested modifications was that of a title change as well. The film has finally received a green signal from the CBFC which awarded it a "U/A" certificate with some modifications.

Mr. Joshi said that they have approved the film and CBFC should not get involved in any controversy and he also added - "Let's refrain from utilizing CBFC's name unnecessarily". Even after all the necessary legal precautions of releasing a film being cleared by Padmaavat, Karni Sena simply wants the film to be never showcased as they think that the film is twisting history.

"Addition of a disclaimer which clearly makes the point that the film in no manner subscribes to the practice of Sati or seeks to glorify it".

Another Sena worker, Jeevan Singh Solanki told IANS that the group will not allow the film to release anywhere in the country. The historians were astonished whether Padmini actually existed. The CBFC suggested few modifications in the controversial movie which included changing of the film's title to "Padmavat" and modifications in song "Ghoomar" in December past year.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmavat was now set for its release on January 25 after the CBFC had recommended five modifications, including changing the title. Shahid Kapoor essays the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh is stepping into the shoes of Alauddin Khilji.
