Kohli, Pujara slip in ICC Test rankings

Kagiso Rabada tops world bowlers chart

This caused Rabada to move ahead by only 1 point from Anderson. In the rankings for the Test batsmen, Australia's Steve Smith remained on 947 points in the first position, but there was some movement just behind him.

The 72-run loss in the opening Test to South Africa has cost India skipper Virat Kohli a drop to the No.3 spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test batsmen rankings, which were released here on Tuesday.

Kagiso Rabada is indeed a rising star.

Pujara's scores of 26 and four resulted in his total falling by 25 points, as he slipped from third to fifth.

Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Marsh have all achieved career-best rankings after stroking excellent centuries in the Sydney Test.

"It's special to be ranked as the No.1 Test bowler in the world‚ it is a surreal feeling‚" Rabada said.

He moved five points up the rankings while the previous leader, James Anderson of England, dropped five points after another fourth Test defeat to Australia in The Ashes series. In the Newlands Test against India, Rabada was consistently South Africa's quickest bowler, delivering balls in the mid-140s throughout but he said speed wasn't everything when it came to fast-bowling.

"Cricket is ultimately a team sport and I'm thankful for the support from my team-mates". "It is what I have always wanted to do, hopefully, I can keep doing what I'm doing and keep trying to win games for the team. It feels great to be playing alongside these veterans", Rabada was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. For his match figures of nine for 75, which also earned him the player of the match award, the 32-year-old has earned 67 points, which, in turn, has lifted him from 12th to sixth position.

Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the first Test due to illness, remains settled third in the bowler list and is followed by compatriot Ravichandran Ashwin, who took two wickets in the first innings and remained wicketless in the second.
