Missouri prosecutor to probe Missouri governor over affair

Gov. Eric Greitens

According to KMOV, Greitens has admitted to having an affair but has not confessed to the other allegations. But after further consideration, she said, she concluded that an investigation is necessary.

"It is essential for residents of the City of St. Louis and our state to have confidence in their leaders", she said.

The investigation came as a Republican state senator on Thursday circulated a letter among 33 colleagues from both major parties asking Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley to investigate the blackmail allegation.

Greitens acknowledged being "unfaithful" in his marriage but denied taking any naked photos and blackmailing the woman to stay quiet.

That bill did not pass, but as governor, Greitens past year signed into law a bill that critics said would make it almost impossible for Missourians to win discrimination suits. "The outrageous claims of improper conduct regarding these nearly three-year-ago events are false", the statement issued after Greitens had seen the TV report said. His GOP campaign for governor in 2016 promoted, in part, his character and his belief in family values.

On Greitens, Schupp, who is also Jewish, said, "I think unfortunately because he is Jewish, this is going to reflect poorly on the Jewish people, and I hope people understand that the governor does not represent all Jewish people".

The rumors had been churning for weeks as the woman's ex-husband told KMOV his marriage was shattered because of the relationship between his wife at the time and Greitens, whom he called a "homewrecker", according to KMOV.

Greitens, who was raised in Maryland Heights, has talked about becoming president since he was in kindergarten, his teacher, Anne Richardson, told Jeanette Cooperman of St. Louis Magazine in 2016.

KMOV decided otherwise. Although it said it had no "on-the-record-comment" from the woman, it went with the story Wednesday night under the headline "Blackmail alleged as Governor Greitens admits to extramarital affair" and took credit for prompting Greitens's statement.

This confession comes after claims were made against the governor in an audio tape of a woman recorded by her ex-husband without her knowledge.

The New York Times reported upon Greiten's admission, which included his assessment of the affair as a "personal mistake".

"Eric took responsibility, and we dealt with this honestly and privately", the statement continued. While we never would have wished for this pain in our marriage, or the pain that this has caused others, with God's mercy Sheena has forgiven and we have emerged stronger. Most of his speeches have cited his status as "a husband and a father".

"And with your help, we will lower taxes for working families and make it easier for businesses to come to Missouri and create jobs".

Eric Greitens, a Duke University graduate, admitted to having a months-long extramarital affair in 2015, when he was considering running for governor.

Though Greitens has had his moments of success as governor, like signing a right-to-work law early past year, he was fined $1,000 after admitting to the Missouri Ethics Commission that he had violated campaign finance law, according to the Kansas City Star.

The lawyer for the ex-husband said the Federal Bureau of Investigation has contacted him several times since October 2016 about the affair. "But for those who can find it in your heart, Eric asks for your forgiveness, and we are grateful for your love, your compassion and your prayers".

St. Louis attorney Albert Watkins, who is representing the ex-husband, backed away from the term "blackmail" in an interview on Thursday. "I just feel like we need to have an investigation done on it and move forward", says Libla.
