Sacramento Sam's Club is one of dozens closing across US

No Tri State Sam's Club locations listed in closings

Pharmacies at the affected Sam Club's are staying open for the next few weeks to allow customers to transition.

Business Insider also said employees at other locations were not told their store had closed before showing up to work. A sign on the door reads, "We regret any inconvenience" and people who are showing up are confused.

Walmart "appeared to tie the pay increase - though not the store closings - to the tax bill passed by Congress last month", Jim notes. "This decision is based on a number of factors, including financial performance". There are reports of stores across the country, including in OH and Texas, shutting their doors today.

"Hourly associates will continue receiving compensation for 60 days while they look for other opportunities in nearby clubs or Walmart stores", she said.

The Lithonia store is one of 63 closing around the country.

"As the labor market tightens, we expect to see wages going up, and if the tax reform provides them additional income, they can then use that to compete for workers by paying more", said Jones. The rest will close for good in the coming weeks.

At first, through its official account on Twitter, Sam's Club said that 53 of its locations were going to be shut down, and that 10 would become fulfillment centers.

Online, the Sam's Club website has already removed the closed stores, with the link to the Norfolk location now displaying an error message.

The company tweeted that the company reviewed their portfolio and closing clubs, which is what they call stores, to "better align our locations with our strategy". The increase applies to all hourly associates in the USA, including those working in Walmart stores, Sam's Clubs, e-commerce, logistics and home office.

All the employees will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at Sam's Clubs or Walmart facilities, according to the company.

Amid the sweeping USA tax overhaul, Walmart said Thursday it's raising its hourly wage to $11, giving new bonuses to employees and expanding maternity and parental leave.

"Today, we are building on investments we've been making in associates, in their wages and skills development", Walmart president and CEO Doug McMillon said in a news release. The amount will range up to $1,000 for employees who have been with Walmart for at least 20 years.
