South African party leaders slam Trump statement as racist

"I can not believe that in the history of the White House, in that Oval Office, any president has ever spoken the words that I personally heard our president speak yesterday".

Trump's comments were first reported by the Washington Post, which said the group of nations referenced also included El Salvador. But neither he nor the White House disputed the most controversial of his remarks: using the word "shithole" to describe Africa nations and saying he would prefer immigrants from countries like Norway instead.

Trump tweeted this morning, "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used".

Republican Sens. David Perdue of Georgia and Tom Cotton of Arkansas, who attended the meeting, said in a statement that they "do not recall the president saying these comments specifically". Lindsey Graham, of SC, spoke up and made a direct comment on what the president said.

Durbin praised Graham for being willing to confront the president over remarks roundly criticized as crude or racist on Friday - a term used by Hillary Clinton.

Jackson says he looks forward to providing additional details at a White House briefing Tuesday. Trump said, according to reports from multiple news outlets. There is bipartisan support for some form of protection, but just how much and what immigration enforcements need to be added in exchange is what's being negotiated now.

'My colleague, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of SC, spoke up and made a direct comment on what the president said. There is no transcript or recording of that meeting.

But Sen. Dick Durbin, the only Democrat in the room, disputed the president's account.

Trump specifically questioned why the US would want to admit more people from Haiti. I want a merit based system of immigration and people who will help take our country to the next level.

We have heard President Trump say outrageous things, racial things before in tweets and speeches - and intended, we are told, to stir his base and meant to provoke.

Despite Trump's denial, the comments quickly drew global condemnation and Florida lawmakers joined in the chorus of calling the president out for what they deemed as "insensitive" remarks.

Florida GOP Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said Trump's comments were "completely unacceptable", telling WPLG-TV in Miami that "if that's not racism, I don't know how you can define it". U.S. Sen. Tim Scott said Graham told him it was true.

The three women say they hope others, but most importantly the leader of their nation will someday realize they have a lot more to give.

This was in apparent reference to the current United States leader's eight-year racist rants and claims against Obama, the first black person to hold the presidency, that he was not born in the U.S., and therefore not fit to be that country's leader.
