The Winter Olympics and the two Koreas

South Korea's President Moon Jae-in says he would be willing to hold talks with North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un under the right conditions.

No sitting USA president is known to have spoken with a North Korean leader.

"I probably have a very good relationship with Kim Jong Un", Mr. Trump said in the Thursday interview.

According to the Swedish diplomat, Stockholm hails the progress reached in the talks between the two Koreas and thinks that North Korea's participation in the Olympic Games is good news.

Fast-thawing relations between North and South Korea have renewed enthusiasm for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, but North Korea may be using the momentum to request other concessions from Seoul. No conversation has been publicly reported between any sitting usa president and a North Korean leader in decades, if ever.

In Bejing, the official China Daily cited Xi as telling Moon that China wanted to work with South Korea to "jointly maintain regional peace and stability". He made the comment after North and South Korean administration engaged in talks on Tuesday. The two Koreas are likely to hold working-level talks next week to further discuss the issue before a January 20 meeting to be chaired by International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said North Korea's Kim Jong-un is a "mature and competent politician" who is now steering the nation in acquiring a long-range missile capable of reaching any region in the world.

South Korea and North Korea are talking for the first time in a while. If the attack goes according to plan, the USA could deny North Korea the ability to research and develop its missile or nuclear programs by destroying elements of it with a kinetic strike. North Korea has shown no willingness to discuss its nuclear weapons which pose an emerging threat to the American mainland, and it has stuck to its tough stance toward Washington while it tries to woo the South.

"I have relationships with people", Trump continued.

"We had a very, very good conversation and we'll see where it goes", Trump told reporters during a photo session at the White House.

But Uriminzokkiri, a website run by North Korea's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, warned in an opinion piece Friday that dialogue is incompatible with military exercises. South Korea also proposed that North Korean athletes should march with South Korean athletes during the Winter Olympics' opening and closing ceremonies.

On Tuesday, North Korea agreed to send a large delegation to the Games, which open in Pyeongchang on 9 February.
