Tina Smith joins a busy Congress, stepping in for embattled Al Franken

Democrat Senator Al Franken has officially submitted his resignation after being pressured late past year to step down in the face of sexual misconduct allegations, the media reported. Next, her designation ups the tally of women serving in the chamber to an unprecedented high of 22.

On Saturday the senator is making multiple visits around the Northland that she says are focused on economic development and creating opportunity for Minnesotans.

Tina Smith has no time to waste as she prepares for the U.S. Senate and a November election to keep her new job.

This makes her the ultimate favorite to win the seat, even if the Republicans have intentions to take the seat for them by putting forward a strong contender.

The "New Day" host asked Smith during her first national television interview about plans for a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program replacement.

"I've only been here for five days, but it seems if we have bipartisan agreement this ought to be a path to citizenship for thinks young people brought to this country as young people", Smith said. "I know that she will be a superb senator, representing the best interests of our state and our citizens". Smith is to sworn in for her position in the Senate, on 3rd January, after Franken officially leaves his seat.

She's also concerned about the growing skills gap in Minnesota.

As the Dayton's decision to support Smith didn't come as a surprise, the decision to allow her another run in 2018 caught some of the on-lookers off-guard. "I will be a fierce advocate in the United States Senate for economic opportunity and fairness for all Minnesotans". Stoesz praised Smith as a "powerful, moving force for justice", in a statement circulated by Planned Parenthood.

"I will continue to work very hard on rural broadband, i will continue to work very hard on making health care more affordable", Sen.
