UN Official: Trump's Vulgar Comments on Africa, Haiti Shameful

So was Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin of IL, who told reporters separately on Friday morning that Graham stood up to the president after he reportedly made derogatory comments about Haiti, El Salvador and African countries, and wondered aloud why the United States couldn't attract more immigrants from predominantly-white Norway.

The president suggested the USA should instead allow more entrants from countries like Norway.

"The point is, if you have a Ph.D., I don't care what country you're from, we want you", Barry Bennett, a former Trump adviser, told The Hill newspaper.

Some conservative commentators pushed that narrative following the news.

Trump's alleged remarks have caused outrage across the world with officials in African, European, Latin American countries and United Nations expressing condemnation and summoning U.S. diplomats in protest.

The United Nations' human rights spokesman Rupert Colville told reporters in Geneva that Trump's comments were "shocking and shameful".

"I'm bothered by what he said, but I don't think the entire America would agree with him", Charitable said.

"For the American President who said he would be Haiti's greatest champion.to stand up and make such a comment at this time. leaves me reeling", community activist Gepsie Metellus said. "I would not talk about nations like this, because I believe the people of those countries are made in the image of God and have worth and human dignity".

Graham went onto say, "The American ideal is embraced by people all over the globe".

"Our nation's strength and the American Dream stem from our immigrant roots and diversity".

'We need comprehensive immigration reform that reflects our values as a country and recognizes our economic needs.

The African Group of UN ambassadors said it was "extremely appalled at, and strongly condemns the outrageous, racist and xenophobic remarks by the president of the United States of America as widely reported by the media". "But the way he said it guarantees that the reaction here will be very negative". "Why are we having all these people from sh*thole countries come here?" he reportedly asked. "Our immigration policy should reflect that truth, and our elected officials, including our President, should respect it". Trump allegedly said after being presented with a proposal to restore protections for immigrants from the countries in question.

The president of Ghana tweeted Friday morning: "We are certainly not a 'shithole country.' We will not accept such insults, even from a leader of a friendly country, no matter how powerful". Dick Durbin, who was at the White House meeting, said Friday that the president "said these hate-filled things and he said them repeatedly". Two immigration hard-liners, Republican Sens. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and David Perdue of Georgia, issued a joint statement, saying they did "not recall the president saying those comments specifically".

AU Spokeswoman Ebba Kalondo pointed out the USA role in the Atlantic slave trade as an example of how African countries, Trump described in contemptuous terms, were exploited in a shameful manner.

Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton weighed in, noting that Trump dismissed Haitians on the eve of the eighth anniversary of a deeply destructive quake.

'The anniversary of the devastating quake 8 years ago is a day to remember the tragedy, honor the resilient people of Haiti, & affirm America's commitment to helping our neighbors, ' Clinton said.
