Winter storm bears down on region

The storm is expected to dump 6 to 8 inches of snow in the Iron Mountain area and more than a foot to the north, according to the National Weather Service office in Marquette.

A disturbance is moving through the region Saturday morning, bringing snow to parts of Nevada and Utah, including Salt Lake City. Black ice, a condition where roads become dangerously icy but do not appear slick, can make driving treacherous. The Colorado Department of Transportation said Saturday motorists should plan on hard travel conditions in the mountains Saturday through Sunday night.

Meteorologist Mike Augustyniak says the heaviest snow is expected to fall across a swath of southern Minnesota, in a line stretching from Worthington to Red Wing. The latest road conditions for Minnesota can be found at 511mn.org and for Wisconsin at 511wi.gov, or by calling 5 1 1 in either state.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS.Winds gusting as high as 45 miles per hour will cause patchy blowing and drifting snow.

A few isolated snow showers will be possible by the end of the week on Friday.


Winter Storm and Blizzard Warnings have been issued for parts of South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota.

Sunday, freezing drizzle and drizzle are likely, along with a high near 40.

In addition, areas of blow and drifting snow remain a possibility over open areas of southeast Minnesota.WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CST TONIGHT.
