UVA wins 3rd ACC regular season title in five years

Virginia men's basketball defeated Georgia Tech 65-54 Wednesday, and in the process clinched the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament in March and at least a share of the ACC regular season title.

That was the second up-close look Pastner had at the Cavaliers this season.

Duke jumped seven spots to No. 5 after beating Virginia Tech and Clemson despite playing without Marvin Bagley, the ACC's scoring and rebounding leader who is recovering from a knee sprain.

"I don't know if we were rusty from the break, I don't know what it was", Bennett said, "but I do know ... it helped his thumb a lot".

Virginia: The Cavaliers were not sharp at either end in their first game in eight days. He guided Washington State to a Sweet 16 as well, before taking the Virginia job. It also gave the Trojans the number one seed in the division for the conference tournament next month in Charlotte. Instead, his mantra was the same as it has been all season, as his team has climbed both the conference standings and national polls. De'Andre Hunter and Mamadi Diakite scored nine points apiece off of the bench while Kyle Guy added eight.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

"We all have our mountaintop experience and our low valley experience".

"We've got to get better in practice every day", Jackson said after the loss to the Hokies.

Virginia can clinch the regular season crown outright on Saturday against Pittsburgh. After that game, the Wahoos still have a trip to Louisville (8-7) and a home game against Notre Dame (6-9) on the schedule for next week.

"You always start the year and you're trying to obviously be about the moment, but you want to have a chance to try to win and be a part of ACC regular-season championships", Virginia coach Tony Bennett said Monday. Senior forward Isaiah Wilkins and junior center Jack Salt found success on the post with seven and six points, respectively. "But I think we believe in each other and we're confident, and we'll see where we go".
