Apple to Launch New Entry-Level MacBook Soon

At the same time, we will also be graced with a MacBook Air refresh, but this entry-level notebook may surprise us in the specifications department. The MacBook Air 2018 has already been announced for launch in 2018 and Apple intends to bring it to market during this year's summer for those who are still interested in the series.

Digitimes claims that Apple was originally going to use a Chinese manufacturer to make displays for this new cheaper MacBook, but has ultimately chose to use LG Display due to quality issues from earlier test production. Currently, the $999 MacBook Air is the cheapest Mac you can buy from Apple. Instead, MacBook Pro feature Air owners wanted for years is finally making its way to the notebook.

Apple is looking to announce an entry-level Macbook variant as soon as the end of 2018's second quarter, possibly around the company's developer conference WWDC 2018.

The MacBook Air 2018 is expected to include a 13.3-inch screen, identical to the one used in the MacBook Pro, with a resolution of 2,560×1,600 pixels. The current MacBook Pro has the same 2560 x 1600-pixel resolution.

The new MacBook will reportedly enter mass production at the end of May or the beginning of June for a June launch, at which time it will face fierce competition from the likes of the Dell XPS 13 ($999) and HP Envy 13t ($899). According to online reports, this variant is expected to be priced similar to the MacBook Air range or a bit higher.

As for the assembly, Quanta Computer obtains 70% of the orders and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) 30%.

Digitimes Research senior analyst Jim Hsiao expects shipments for the new MacBook to reach around four million units in 2018.

Meanwhile, the upstream supply chain has recently begun shipping components for iPad Pro upgrades and a new low-priced 9.7-inch iPad - a refreshed version of its 2017 counterpart.
