Cleveland Browns To Sign Former 49ers Running Back

Browns will sign Carlos Hyde. Does that put an end to the Saquon Barkley rumors?

Hyde was one of the more attractive backs on the open market, though it's worth noting the 27-year-old (28 in September) racked up easily a career high in touches (299) but also a career-low 3.9 yards per carry.

Hyde started all 16 games for San Francisco last season, crafting 240 carries for 938 yards. McKinnon, who ran a 4.41 40-yard dash at his combine, is faster and is a more dynamic pass-catcher than Hyde, who had a career-best 59 catches past year. Things finally started to turn around with the hiring of Kyle Shanahan as head coach in 2017.

The Browns are rumored to also be interested in Penn State running back Saquon Barkley in the 2018 NFL Draft.

During his time with the Buckeyes, Hyde only missed two games with a knee sprain, but that would end up being just the tip of the iceberg.

Hue Jackson surrendering play calling duties was a good sign for the Browns this offseason. Hyde's addition to go with Duke Johnson might mean the Browns would look away from Barkley, but the source said that is not the case. According to his report, Hyde will sign a three-year deal worth more than $15 million.

And as part of the Niners' Hyde replacement plan, former Minnesota Viking Jerick McKinnon is headed west on a four-year pact, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Browns have the first and fourth picks in the draft, and are expected to take a quarterback with one of the picks.

The Browns have been had a busy few days, adding three players via trade and agreeing to deals with a handful of free agents. The team's remaining running backs are Matt Breida, Joe Williams, Raheem Mostert and Jeremy McNichols.

He played a full 16-game season for the first time in his National Football League career, and his 59 receptions and 350 receiving yards were more than he had posted in his previous three years combined (50 receptions for 284 yards).
