Former Florida TE Trey Burton agrees to monster deal with Chicago Bears

Though Philadelphia valued Burton's versatility and contributions to the offseason in a limited role, the former Florida Gator performed well enough last season to earn a lucrative contract on the open market.

Signing with the Bears should allow Burton to get more consistent playing time than he did in Philadelphia.

Burton served as the backup to Zach Ertz, who caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LII.

The Chicago Bears and tight end Trey Burton reached an agreement Tuesday on a four-year, $32 million contract. The 26-year-old Parkey has converted 86.4 of his career FG tries in parts of four seasons with the Eagles, Browns and Dolphins.

He flourished when targeted on tight-window throws in 2017.

As disappointing as it was for Eagles fans to see one of their beloved tight ends leave for the Bears, they'll always appreciate what he did to help bring the team their first Super Bowl title, especially during the historic Philly Special play. Investing in Burton like this would indicate he'd actually be higher on the depth chart, but it's entirely possible the Bears could use both guys in two-tight-end sets.

In his second season in Jacksonville in 2015, Robinson caught 80 passes for 1,400 yards, and an NFL-leading 14 touchdowns. Burton took a handoff on an apparent end-around but tossed a touchdown pass to QB Nick Foles on fourth-and-goal from the Patriots' one-yard line.
