Ram Navami clash: Accused flees from custody in Bihar

Un Samayal Arayil Press Meet with Prakash Raj Sneha and Ilaiyaraaja

Prohibitory orders under section 144, CrPC were clamped in the Asansol-Raniganj area and internet services were suspended on Wednesday.

"The governor has expressed his willingness to visit Asansol and Raniganj".

In all, 60 people were detained in connection with the violence, he said.

Amidst the violence, the Asansol constituency's MP Babul Supriyo attempted to visit the strained district on Thursday but was stopped from entering resulting in a scuffle between the former playback singer Supriyo and police forces.

Tripathi held a meeting with police officers and the local administration and took stock of the current situation in the area that was hit by communal tension earlier this week.

An Imam in Asansol, who has lost his son in the violent incidents over Ram Navami celebrations, has urged the people not to make it an issue and restore peace in the area.

BJP mounted pressure on the Trinamool Congress government, with party president Amit Shah calling the violence "sad and unfortunate".

The central BJP delegation will be led by Shahnawaz Hussain and also comprises Roopa Ganguly and BD Ram, and BJP MP Om Mathur.

The Imam of Noorani Masjid, Imdatullah Rashid, had said that his son was also killed in the violence but there was no confirmation from the police on the incident. Supriyo was also booked for rioting and assaulting an IPS officer in Asansol.

A group of people shouted slogans against the minister and demanded that he immediately leave the area.

Kolkata: Police in West Bengal has registered a case against Union Minister Babul Supriyo on charges of disrupting public order after he clashed with cops on Thursday. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also refused the centre's offer to send para-military forces to the violence hit area claiming that the state police was well equipped to control the situation.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee alleged that the BJP was trying to destroy communal peace and harmony in the state. Most residents locked themselves inside their home on Friday as police patrolled the desolate market area, 3km off National Highway 2. "Are they not satisfied after unleashing violence for the last two days?" he had said.
