Spotify wants you to fix its bad music data

Entertainment Spotify South Africa launches only R60 per month for Premium
By Edward Swardt- 12 March 2018 0

The company has announced a new feature, Line-In, where customers can add to the streaming service's metadata, correcting or adding to songs' current genres. Cue said Apple has 8 million subscribers now in the free trial period, the first time Apple has disclosed the number of trial users.

Once users have accessed the Line-In web interface, they can make suggestions about the song's genre, mood, and other attributes.

The tool is now only available to desktop users, and is accessible by clicking on the three dots next to Artist, Album or Song, then choosing "Suggest an Edit".

Spotify first began testing Line-In with a subset of its audience last fall. That's why the company added the ability to use tags as descriptors as well. Suggestions will be vetted, and users' metadata recommendations will be ranked based on the quality of their past submissions.

In addition to its paid service, Spotify also offers an free ad-supported version to help draw users into the service. New edits will also be checked before becoming official.

Beyond contributing data by searching for artists from the Line-In homepage, users also can opt to take quizzes to share their knowledge or track mood or explicitness, while contributing data. And if you completely mess up on your hip-hop test, you might have a harder time making your future contributions about the genre count.

Notes Spotify in its FAQ, by confirming the data describing music, the company will be able to improve the experiences of the users and artists on its service. In the process of recommending, selecting and playing music, it accesses 5 petabytes of this data every single day.
