Tillerson On Trump-Kim Meeting Specifics: 'Remain Patient'

Shinzō Abe has been Prime Minister of Japan for seven years spanning two stints

Senior administration officials had to dissuade Trump from meeting Kim in April and convince him to wait until May, after the leaders of North and South Korea hold their own summit.

The United States has yet to hear from North Korea after President Donald Trump accepted an invitation to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last week, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Monday.

In Beijing on Monday, Xi told Chung there was an important opportunity for talks. "But the fact that we are a protective force for United States we were on the border since the 1950s that we had an Embassy in Pyongyang since the early 1970s, gives us the following relations with North Korea, which, as we feel they trust us", said Leven.

Chung said Kim told the South Koreans during recent talks in Pyongyang that he's "committed to denuclearization" and pledged that "North Korea will refrain from any further nuclear or missile tests". (See: Moammar Gadhafi, 1942-2011.) Kim's existential stakes and Trump's mercurial brinkmanship could make a highly combustible combination.

Mr Pompeo and Mr Mnuchin said the U.S. would make no concessions and would keep the pressure on North Korea by maintaining economic sanctions and a strong USA defense posture before the meeting.

But Deputy White House spokesman Raj Shah said on Sunday that no additional conditions are being stipulated.

'Our policy is pressure, is pressure from our partners and allies around the world, pressure to the United Nations, pressure through China, these have had an impact.

"We're not going to have this meeting take place until we see concrete actions that match the words and the rhetoric of North Korea", White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters.Trump praised a possible future agreement with the nuclear-armed North as "very good" for the worldwide community as a whole.

Shah offered no commitment that Trump would raise the issue with Kim of releasing three Americans now held by North Korea.

South Korea's National Security Office head Chung Eui-yong, center, Cho Yoon-je, the South Korean Ambassador to the US, right, and National Intelligence Service chief Suh Hoon, left, make an announcement about North Korea and the Trump administration last week.

After Suh and the other envoys met Kim in Pyongyang on behalf of South Korean President Moon Jae In, both Moon and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to hold summits with Kim in the coming months.

McMaster said the council had shown "unity and resolve that has us now at the point where we may be able to pursue a diplomatic solution on the complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula". Trust me, he wouldn't have done it.

"President Trump isn't doing this for theater". "Anybody could have done it. Obama could have done it. Obama had his chance". Trump is never in that game, and I think Kim knows it.
