Although cleared of bias, questions remain for Burlington School Board

Woodstock police officer Joshua Rapacz who serves as the school resource officer for Woodstock School District 200 works in his office Feb. 23

Dintermith, a former venture capitalist and now education advocate, spent a year traveling across the USA, during which time he visited school districts in all 50 states.

That's true across the board, including at Adams' former district, where he implemented the "Wi-Fi on Wheels" program to help the California community's most disadvantaged students - such as those living in mobile homes - get connected to the internet.

The county has spent several years on or near the state's failing schools list.

The District 200 board recently approved a request to negotiate with the city for an additional officer.

The school board, Cheshire said, was not as transparent as it should have been communicating details of the bond.

Educational Statesmanship: Todd White, El Dorado Union High School District, is an advocate for public education in the community and was recognized for his efforts toward enriching and improving the educational experience for all students. "There's some unique partnerships that I'm interested to learn more about, and I think it's key to bring city leaders in to do some great things here". The superintendent originally planned to leave at the end of 2018.

Frost was one of two finalists for the position, and she was offered the position after a "rigorous" process that included being interviewed by three screening committees, which included parents of students with disabilities, Heinz said. State funding is also expected to increase, he said.

"They also resolved to review appropriate compensation for employees, receive training around the obligations of a board to avoid impermissible employment discrimination, receive implicit bias training, and support measures in place throughout the District which are created to preclude discrimination from occurring", Obeng said.

The tax levy would increase by 1.9 percent, to $12.23 million, which is well under the district's 4.3 percent tax cap.

"This is a tight year because of charter school increases, special ed increases", Gallagher said.

"Just because we have a public meeting, I feel like we haven't necessarily engaged with the public", said trustee Ryan Land.

In other action, the board voted unanimously to hire Christa Donnelly to be Franklin Elementary School's new assistant principal. "However, we need them to vote".

As the board members took their turns stating the level of spending that they supported, the $127 million spending range emerged as the favored level, with Wolff, Wood, Billig, Engel, and Lisi all saying that they felt that that was the level necessary for the project of the scope that the district needs.

In an email statement, Superintendent Paul Schley said this is the seventh year in a row the elementary school was given this honor and the second consecutive year the middle school has been honored. The sessions feature a half hour talk addressing the state of the district, with an hour-long in-depth question and answer session.
