Apple offers free battery replacement for this MacBook model

The "Battery Replacement Program" is a global initiative and an attempt to fix the expanding battery issue in the 13-inch MacBook Pro. It seems some units are prone to battery expansions if a certain component fails.

According to Apple, the potential problem is present in the 13-inch version of the MacBook Pro. Apple further clarified that this is not a safety issue and the company will replace eligible batteries, totally free of cost.

The company says there is an issue with a small number of MacBook Pros manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017.

The support page features a serial number checker which you can use to see if your device qualifies for this program - not sure how to find serial number of your device? Earlier, Apple conducted a similar program for its affected iPhone models such as iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE citing the software dealing with that slow down the performance of the models of reducing the price of battery replacement from $79 to $29.

While this sounds risky, Apple claims it isn't a safety issue.

If your 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) has an eligible serial number, Apple will replace the battery, free of charge. You will have to find your nearest Apple Authorised Service Provider or make an appointment at the nearest Apple Retail Store or send the laptop to the nearest Apple Repair Centre. You will need to get in touch with Apple Support for that.

Despite a slew of battery-related problems, Apple has managed to remain in control of most situations unlike Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, which resulted in a multi-billion-dollar write-off for the South Korean tech titan.
