BCCI on 28 March 2018 banned Smith and Warner from this year's IPL.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will sell media rights through the e-auction process for the first time on Tuesday for the bilateral series in India between 2018 and 2023.
India are scheduled to play 102 matches - 22 Tests, 42 One-Day Internationals and 38 Twenty20 Internationals - at home in the next five-year cycle.
For the period between 2019-2023, the per match value package is Rs 33 crore, Rs 7 crore for Indian Subcontinent and Rs 40 crore for the Global Consolidated Rights.
The e-auction in the final round will determine the BCCI's broadcast rights ownership for the worldwide and domestic games to be hosted by the BCCI over the next five years. The bidders will only be revealed after the bid process is over.
While the process is expected to be more transparent, it is ultimately the value of the deal that is going to decide whether the Vinod Rai-led BCCI got it right by going for the e-auction.
In spite of seven global boards in Sony's cricket closet, Star drives home the advance on the strength of IPL, which for ten years meant cricket on Sony. While the 21st Century Fox-owned Star would like to retain its cricket broadcast monopoly in the country, Sony is eager to settle the score and complete its cricket portfolio, which already has seven global cricket boards, after having lost the precious Indian Premier League rights.
The ITT has three packages including global TV rights plus rest of the world digital rights package, Indian sub-continent digital rights package and global consolidated rights package.
"It will be interesting how desperate Star will be now that they have acquired IPL media rights".
Yupp TV recently picked up the IPL digital and television rights from Star India for Europe, South America, and South East Asian countries, and non-exclusive rights for Australia for an undisclosed amount, according to the Economic Times.
A source following the bid process closely has confirmed to insidesport.co that "Reliance, Star and Sony are bidding for all the rights". Internet giants Google, meanwhile, could bid for digital rights alone post a backend agreement with a mobile network company.
