Action Comics #1000 is an 80-page issue dedicated to the Man of Steel on his 80th year of existence as a fictional superhero and it comes together from some of the industry's best creative minds. Superman made his comic debut on April 18th, 1938 in Action Comics #1.

Action Comics #1000 Explained - It's not JUST about the number. This is less of a story and more of a celebration of Superman through the eyes of some of comics' most prolific writers and artists, and DC is banking - correctly - that fans will want to celebrate alongside them.

He looks out for the little guy while also working for the Daily Star, trying to date the feisty Lois Lane while claiming the headline story. Along with the famous first two issues of Action Comics are the introductions of many key elements to the Superman mythos, such as the introduction of the Fortress of Solitude and the first appearances of Brainiac and Supergirl.

"It is special to have a long association with a character like (Superman)", Jurgens said.

DC All Access pays tribute to this iconic series and spectacular new issue in this week's episode, talking to numerous Action Comics #1000 contributors including new Action Comics and Superman writer Brian Michael Bendis, Scott Snyder, Dan Jurgens, Marv Wolfman and more. Reading these stories or essay prior to the big milestone issue isn't required, but it certainly adds to feeling of history behind the Superman mythos.

"It's really nearly inarguably the most important comic book", he said.
