Ian Somerhalder Returns for Another Vampire Drama With Netflix's 'V-Wars'

The streaming giant has handed out a 10-episode, straight-to-series order for vampire drama V-Wars, based on the IDW novel of the same name, with the Vampire Diaries alum set to star.

Are you excited for Ian Somerhalder to return to the world of vampire TV?

"We could not have dreamed of a better choice than Ian Somerhalder to bring his keen understanding of this genre from his years of starring in The Vampire Diaries to lead the cast of V-Wars as Dr. Luther Swann and to be a creative force on this series, as well as to serve as a director this season". He'll also continue his directing passion for the series.

The V-Wars graphic novels revolve around a virus that turns human beings into risky vampires that are out for blood. In this world, vampirism is a disease, a little like iZombie's take on the zombie disease or I Am Legend's take on the vampire disease.

That disease spreads wide, causing more people to transform, and society to fracture. Unfortunately for him, Michael rises to power as an underground leader of the vampires, putting Swann in a hard spot.

Brad Turner will direct the pilot episode, with William Laurin and Glenn Davis acting as showrunners. Somerhalder is viewed as the ideal choice for the role of Dr. Swann, considering he already has knowledge of the vampire genre. At least he's not taking on the role of another dark, selfish vampire. We're anticipating the series will be released in 2019, but that's just an estimate. It comes off the back of Netflix canceling Everything Sucks!

According to Comic Book, IDW Entertainment President David Ozer cited Ian Somerhalder as the ideal choice for the V-Wars adaptation, revealing his work on The Vampire Diaries has offered the actor a "keen understanding" of the vampire genre.
