Ice damage to Rogers Centre roof causes rare postponement at domed stadium

Kansas City Royals rogers centre

It's the first cancellation at Rogers Centre since a game against the Royals was called off following a collision between two panels of the stadium's moving roof on April 12, 2001.

The CN Tower has been closed due to the extreme weather following reports of chunks of ice falling off the tower, endangering buildings and passengers below.

"Perhaps this potential postponement is karma, because the Blue Jays have done a lot of bragging about having a roof, particularly after having games postponed in Cleveland", Grathoff wrote a couple of hours before the team confirmed that Monday's game was a no-go.

Monday night's Major League Baseball game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals has been postponed because of damage to the roof at Rogers Centre. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Tuesday.

Crews attempted to fix the roof in time for first pitch but were unable to and the Blue Jays scrapped the game due to safety reasons. The entrance to the CN Tower and the Rogers Centre are closed.

"Fortunately there's been no injuries reported", said Toronto Police Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook.

A weekend ice storm resulted in power outages, canceled flights and auto crashes. Monday's games between the Orioles-Red Sox and Cardinals-Cubs were also postponed, bringing MLB's season total to 24 so far.
