LIST: Metro Detroit stores participating in Record Store Day 2018

Old Soul Vintage Attire and Records will be hosting events throughout the day Saturday in celebration of Record Store Day, a nationally recognized event that's meant to encourage people to visit their local record shops.

The store says this year, it has its largest selection ever. Both stores will offer one-of-a-kind special releases unique to the event including a cassette version of AC/DC's "Back in Black", a yellow-vinyl 7-inch remixed single of Led Zeppelin's "Rock And Roll" (the band's first offering for Record Store Day), releases from Frank Zappa, John Williams, Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, David Bowie, The Doors and many more. They've had twelve years of growth in the industry.

To find out, students need to show up at the store's early 8 a.m. opening. Those store owners and community supporters created Record Store Day in 2007 as a way of celebrating the grassroots movement that's allowed a once-dying medium to thrive. You don't get that so much when you shop at a big store. The band will release the vinyl edition of their 2011 b-sides collection, "The Lost Children", to honor locally owned record shops. Records are for life - not just for Record Store Day. They'll be offering donuts from Buckeye Bakery, pastries from Blackbird Bakery, giveaways, and live music outside the shop, so long as the weather cooperates.

1246 Central Ave: will have DJ Kalani and DJ Rozak perform while they have discounts, prizes, raffles and free beer from Pinellas Aleworks.

St. Petersburg record stores include Daddy Kool Records, Planet Retro Records, St. Pete Records, Bananas Records, the Disc Exchange and ARTpool Records, each celebrating in their own way.
