While the Army had declared him "missing", the PTI report suggested that Mir had joined Hizbul Mujahideen along with two locals, who too, have been missing. He is the second soldier from the Army to sign up with a militant group in the last nine months.A picture of Mir Idrees Sultan, son of Mohammad Sultan Mir of Safanagri in south Kashmir's Shopian district, holding an AK-47 rifle has gone viral on social media.

Mir, who was posted in the Army's Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry unit, reportedly joined the militant group on Sunday, PTI quoted unidentified police officers as saying.

He had arrived at his native village on April 12 and had been missing since Saturday night, police officials said.

Shahid was arrested by the NIA in October past year after he was found receiving and collecting funds through global wire money transfer from Saudi Arabia-based Hizbul Mujahideen member Aijaz Ahmed Bhat.

"The family filed a missing report only Monday", Deputy Inspector General of south Kashmir Amit Kumar told The Indian Express. Both of them were taken to Srinagar for treatment, the police said. Although an inquiry is being conducted, the police believe the soldier was unhappy with his next posting in Jharkhand, which could be one of the reasons behind quitting the armed forces. The Army maintains that he has been "missing" and has no confirmation about his joining the terror outfit.

Meanwhile, a policeman and a civilian were injured on Monday after suspected militants opened fire in Shopian.
