New Gmail design revealed

Google is said to be planning to roll out the new look of Gmail to G Suite and regular users over the coming weeks, though no specific date has been mentioned yet.

Google had indeed acknowledged that such changes in Gmail are in the offing and that the company is working on it. According to the report, copy and paste and printing are not allowed in this mode.

Other new features include cosmetic changes to bring Gmail up-to-date with its current application design guidelines, which Google calls "Material Design", and new features from its Inbox mail client.

The redesign will focus mainly on Gmail for web to make it look cleaner and user-friendly like its mobile interface. However, that doesn't seem to stop Google, as the company is now going beyond the POP3/IMAP/SMTP protocols. The revision states, "Our automated systems analyse your content (including emails) to provide you personally relevant product features, such as customised search results, tailored advertising, and spam and malware detection".

TechCrunch states that the feature isn't ready yet, as their source arrived at a non-existent page after clicking on the "Learn more" option to open Google's help articles.

On the recipient's side, the person was using the existing version of Gmail and received a link to view the confidential email. As The Verge notes, a Confidential email recipient would only need to take a screenshot of an email to avoid these safeguards entirely. This is a helpful feature as users will be eligible to send a reply to an email with one mere click. "Unfortunately users can't always decide on the type of device they have or the kind of connection they are on‚" commented Google Africa chief marketing officer‚ Mzamo Masito. Hopefully, these shortcut to archive, delete, and snooze are present in the final version. In fact it looks like Google Lens just got a lot handier because in celebration of National Pet Day, Google has announced an update to Google Lens that will make it capable of identifying cat and dog breeds.

A particular bugbear is so-called bloatware - the pre-installed apps that many consumers don't want and never use but can't uninstall.
