Palestinian journalist shot by Israel dies of wounds

Malaysian police have released a photo of one of the two suspects in the killing of a Palestinian engineer, and say the duo could still be in the country.

Palestinian protestors cheer as they try to pull down part of the border fence with occupied territories near the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Yunis during ongoing protests on the border between Gaza and occupied lands on April 22, 2018.

Fadi Mohammad al-Batsh, 35, was killed in a hail of bullets by two attackers Saturday as he walked to a mosque for dawn prayers.

Police previously released two computer-generated images of the suspects, showing two light-skinned men with beards. Israel has denied the claims.

The suspects are believed to have entered Malaysia in late January but it is not known what their nationalities are or from where they had travelled, the police chief told reporters.

"We believe that the suspects are still in the country", Fuzi said, adding that they may have changed their appearance.

The motorbike they were allegedly riding was found abandoned Tuesday not far from where the assassination took place, and police were able to trace the photo.

Mohamad Fuzi said the killing appeared "very professionally done", but declined to comment on reports it was a Mossad operation or that it was carried out by trained assassins.

Abu Hussein will be buried in Gaza on Thursday.

A Palestinian journalist passed away on Wednesday after succumbing to wounds he sustained after being shot by Israeli forces while covering Gaza border protests on April 13.

He said Egypt had agreed to allow the body to be returned through its border with Gaza. Fadi al-Batsh in Malaysia on Saturday, alleging that Israeli agents were systematically assassinating Arab scientists.

The network reported that Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman had said that the request was in line with Israel's policy on preventing the transfer of the bodies of martyrs from the Hamas movement for burial in the Gaza Strip.

That day will mark the 70th anniversary of Israel's establishment - an event Palestinians refer to as the "Nakba" or "Catastrophe".

Al-Batsh, an electrical engineering lecturer at a Malaysian university, was believed to have been working on Hamas' unmanned aerial vehicle program and was working on improving the accuracy of its rockets.
