Russia Threatens To Freeze Cooperation With US

Russia asks US to solve problems at 'negotiating table'

US President Donald Trump warned Wednesday that "missiles will be coming" in response to an alleged chemical attack in Syria, as the United Nations chief urged world powers to stop a face-off with Russian Federation from spiraling out of control.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Trump did not mean that Mueller was the only reason for bad relations with Russian Federation, but that the Kremlin actions in Syria and Ukraine also played a role.

The attack has drawn worldwide outrage and prompted the United States and its allies to consider a military strike on Syria, something Moscow has strongly warned against.

Donald Trump abandoned his instincts as an impulsive and go-it-alone president in Syria, deliberating at length with his military commanders and working closely with USA allies in Europe to confront President Bashar al-Assad for an alleged chemical weapons attack.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis as well as Central Intelligence Agency director Mike Pompeo huddled at the White House on Wednesday to discuss options and game out the situation. Participants included Vice President Mike Pence, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and John Bolton, Trump's new national security adviser.

Germany, another important European ally, stayed out of the conflict despite US urging, the White House official said. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is anxious about the diplomatic impasse over how to respond to chemical weapons' use.

Speaking at a news conference in the capital, Maria Zaharova condemned the threats from U.S. President Donald Trump aimed not only at Syria, but also Russian Federation.

Macron kept up the drumbeat for likely war with his claim of evidence that chemical weapons were used in the attack, although he did not elaborate.

The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations told the Security Council on Saturday that the U.S.is "locked and loaded", ready to launch another military strike if the Syrian government ever uses chemical weapons again.

In Moscow, the head of a Russian parliamentary defence committee, Vladimir Shamanov, said Russia was in direct contact with the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff about the situation.

This crisis is developing after the news last week about an alleged chemical attack in the town of Douma that killed about 70 people, which was accompanied by dramatic video material. Trump asked, adding the two countries are "most responsible for supporting, equipping and financing the criminal Assad regime".

"Russia in the most serious way condemns the attack on Syria where Russian military servicemen help the legitimate government to fight terrorism".

US President Donald Trump appeared to back away from earlier threats of imminent action and France's Emmanuel Macron yesterday called for stepped-up talks with Moscow.

"The situation in the world is becoming more and more chaotic but all the same we hope that common sense will finally prevail and global relations will take a constructive path", he said. Get ready Russian Federation, because they will be coming, nice and new and "smart!", he threatened. "Stop the arms race?" he tweeted Wednesday.

During a phone call late on Thursday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May and US President Donald Trump agreed on the need to deter chemical weapon use in Syria.

Lavrov also said Russian specialists who examined the attack found no trace of chemical weapons.

In the meanwhile, European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on Tuesday issued rapid alert notification for "Eastern Mediterranean/Nicosia FIR Area" due to possible airstrikes on Syria in the following 72 hours.

Turkey welcomed the air strikes targeting the Assad regime as an "appropriate reaction" in retaliation for the suspected chemical attack that left dozens dead.
