Saudi Crown Prince: Palestinians, Israelis "Have Right to Their Own Land"

Saudi Crown Prince: Palestinians, Israelis

The crown prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammad bin Salman has expressed that Israel has a "right" to a homeland, signalling a visible shift in the diplomatic policy of the oil-rich state.

In the interview when the Saudi leader was asked if "Jewish people have a right to a nation-state in at least part of their ancestral homeland?" he replied, "I believe that each people, anywhere, has a right to live in their peaceful nation".

Saudi Arabia condemned US President Donald Trump's move to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel past year, but Arab officials said at the time that Riyadh appears to be on board with a broader US strategy for an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan still in its early phases of development.

"But the normal sort of problems", said Mohammed, adding that there were "lot of interests we share", including economically.

Saudi Arabia: Reforms or just power games?

Saudi Arabia appears to be in the middle of an attempt to rebrand the kingdom as progressive and, judging from the headlines since a year ago, the strategy appears to be working, at least to some extent. "We don't have any objection against any other people", he clarified in blunt remarks as he responded to Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. Thirty-two-year-old Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud is widely regarded as the driving force behind opening up the ultra-conservative country.

Bahram Qassemi, the representative of Iran's Foreign Ministry warned Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman "not to play with fire" and asked seasoned Saudi diplomats to teach some lessons to the "Inexperienced Prince".

Bin Salman also said he had no "religious objection" to Israelis living alongside Palestinians, so long as the Al-Aqsa mosque compound - the main Muslim holy site in Jerusalem al-Quds - is protected. I believe the Palestinians and Israelis have a right to have their own land.

Iran and Saudi Arabia are archrivals that back opposing sides in regional conflicts from Yemen to Syria.

"Saudi Arabia has traditionally been a place that has produced a lot of anti-Semitic propaganda". You will find a lot of Jews in Saudi Arabia coming from America, coming from Europe.

"Our country doesn't have a problem with Jews".

They bet instead on a young generation of Saudis hungry for change and a Saudi public fed up with corruption and government bureaucracy.

"In our religion there is no difference between men and women". In The Atlantic interview, Prince Mohammed said of Iranian leader Ayatollah Khameinei, "I believe the Iranian supreme leader makes Hitler look good".

A ban on women driving has been lifted and there are plans to begin issuing licenses to women, even allowing them to drive motorcycles.
