Stormy Daniels: Trump's lawyer believes he's above the law

Stormy Daniels on

Daniels made a flashy appearance for a hearing over the client list of President Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen.

After the hearing, Daneils briefly addressed a throng of reporters outside the courthouse.

A source familiar with the raids said last week that the information Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were seeking included information about payments to Daniels.

The adult actress says she slept with the married future US President after meeting him in 2006.

Lawyers for Cohen and Trump want to be allowed to decide which items seized from his home and office are protected by attorney-client privilege before criminal prosecutors see them.

Among his dealings, Cohen arranged a $US1.6-million payment to secure the silence of a former Playboy model who said she became pregnant by Broidy, a person familiar with the matter said on Friday. They called the search "completely unprecedented".

Judge Kimba Wood spent more than 2-1/2 hours listening to arguments by Cohen's lawyers, prosecutors from the US attorney's office in Manhattan and a lawyer representing Trump in the hearing. "I have many (too many!) lawyers and they are probably wondering when their offices, and even homes, are going to be raided with everything, including their phones and computers, taken". The government says it should do the vetting.

PORN star Stormy Daniels tripped and almost fell in a pair of towering black strappy stilettos as she arrived at court.

Lawyers for Cohen filed papers Monday saying investigators "took everything" during the raids, including more than a dozen electronic devices.

Michael Cohen, Trump's fiercely loyal and pugnacious lawyer, disclosed Hannity's name through one of his own lawyers at the order of the judge.

Prosecutors have asked that the documents be reviewed for attorney-client privilege by a "filter team" of lawyers within their own office, who would be walled off from the main prosecution team.

The submission in Manhattan federal court came prior to a hearing scheduled for the afternoon.

The DOJ announced Friday that Cohen has been "under criminal investigation" in regards to his business dealings for months.

Federal agents raided Cohen's office, home and hotel room last week and reportedly seized financial documents, communications between Cohen and Trump and materials related to payments Cohen made to two women, including Daniels, who alleged they had an affair with Trump more than a decade ago.

She ordered prosecutors to give Cohen's lawyers a copy of the seized materials before the next hearing. He has denied wrongdoing.

Cohen was in court to ask the judge to limit the ability of federal prosecutors to review documents seized from his offices and home last week as part of a criminal investigation, which stems in part from a probe into possible collusion between Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation.
