There's a mess of new content coming soon to Sea of Thieves

Moving towards the summer, the team is focusing on its Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores updates which will introduce a new ship type and new region respectively.

Sea of Thieves was released just over three weeks ago. It's good that the developers have recognised and addressed this, meaning that more content could help Sea of Thieves' longevity. It adds to the game some sort of PvE threat that the crew players will have to detect and destroy in the framework of the unique event.

Both of these updates will include new gameplay dynamics, AI enemies, and rewards.

Beyond that, five more content updates are planned for the rest of 2018, but only two have been revealed so far. Such weekly events can be as simple as new trading company missions or helping an NPC recover a chest from a location that you would have no reason to explore otherwise.

Design Director Mike Chapman stated that while these enemies will be added into the world naturally - so that players may encounter them during regular voyages and interact with them as they would anything else - a specific event would mark their arrival and "showcase them in a cool and interesting way".

Fortunately, all major content updates will be available for free, and their associated enemies, mechanics, etc. will be integrated into the Sea of Thieves world for anyone to stumble upon whenever they want. The real question is whether or not it will be enough to keep people interested in Sea of Thieves over the next couple of months as such promises have been made before by other developers to mixed results. In a new developer diary, Rare has detailed some of their upcoming plans for content for the game that'll span over the next several months.

As April continues, Rare will work on addressing player concerns, but Neate claims that "as we move into May, our focus will shift to new content".
