Trump 'morally unfit' for office - Comey

"Fired FBI Director James Comey spoke exclusively to ABC News" George Stephanopoulos, ahead of the release of his new book "A Higher Loyalty".

Comey: "Possibly. It's certainly some evidence of obstruction of justice". "I think he's morally unfit to be president", Mr Comey replied.

This file photo taken on January 22, 2017 shows US Vice President Mike Pence, 2nd left, shaking hands with then FBI Director James Comey, right, watched by Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy, left, and US President Donald Trump, 3rd right, during the reception for law enforcement officers and first responders in the Blue Room of the White House.

"Our president must embody respect and adhere to the values that are at the core of this country", Comey told ABC's George Stephanopoulos. "Lot more flexibility there", Comey said, adding that "they're still required to tell the truth".

Trump did not explain the "many crimes" he alleges that Comey and McCabe committed and there is no evidence that they have done any wrongdoing.

Trump fired Comey in May 2017, citing the FBI's behavior in investigating Democrat Hillary Clinton and its probe into possible Trump campaign collusion with Russian Federation to tilt the 2016 presidential election.

In his tweet, Trump says: "Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe". "I remember thinking, 'How could your wife think there's a 1 per cent chance you were with prostitutes peeing on each other in Moscow?' " he said, adding that his assessment was it's possible Trump is guilty of the accusation.

Comey, who was sacked in May 2017 by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein before Trump later took credit for the dismissal, said there are already positives coming out of the problems he perceives.

Despite his criticism of Trump, Comey admitted that he does not think Trump should be impeached.

Trump calls people names - Lyin' Comey comes to mind- but Comey's not above needling the president where it hurts.

Comey repeated the detail, included in the book, that he assumes Trump has small white circles beneath his eyes because of the use of tanning goggles.

Comey testified previous year that after he was sacked from his post, he asked his "close friend", Columbia University Law Professor Daniel Richman, to share the contents of a memo with notes of one of his first meetings with Trump. Grassley, who, during Comey's testimony before the committee last June, asked whether Comey had ever been an anonymous source to the media-a topic Trump hit again last month. During the weekend the president had tweeted that Comey was a "slimeball", "a leaker & liar" and a bad Federal Bureau of Investigation director. This assumption, Comey says, influenced his decision to send a letter to Congress in October, just before the election, in which he revealed that new emails had surfaced that "appear to be pertinent" to the FBI's closed investigation of Clinton's use of a private email server.

Comey, who was sacked by Trump previous year, acknowledged in the interview that his belief that Clinton would be elected president "was a factor" in his decision to reopen the email probe 11 days before the U.S. election, a development that Clinton blames for her surprise defeat.

The ex-FBI boss, fired by Trump last May, also re-iterated his opinion that "it's possible" the Russians have something on Trump.

The Clinton probe was already public, Mr Comey said, whereas the FBI's examination of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation was in its early stages.

"In other words, he was making decisions based on the fact that he thought she was going to win, and he wanted a job".
