Uber Partners With Getaround For 'Uber Rent' Service

Uber is the world's most valuable venture-backed startup, with a valuation of some US$70 billion, with Mr Khosrowshahi planning a public share offering in 2019. "Every piece of their feedback was important and it was incorporated into building an app that meets their needs", Pradeep Parameswaran, Head of Central Operations, Uber India and South Asia, said in a statement.

Uber's second major expansion relates to vehicle rentals.

Uber said that the firm is expanding Uber Bike by JUMP to Washington, DC.

The new program will add more cars to the GetAround fleet than just the existing personal vehicles that owners make available, and make the cars available to anyone with the Uber app in San Francisco.

Uber is looking to give people several options for getting around in USA cities.

Uber is done being exclusively a ride-hailing company.

But it'll be a while before anyone will be actually able to realize Khosrowshahi's dream of transferring from a commuter train to a hired ride without ever looking up from the Uber app.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the changes in a blog post Wednesday titled "Moving Forward Together with Cities".

Uber has also partnered with Masabi, which has developed a public transit mobile ticketing platform, that will let Ubr users book and use transit tickets in its app.

Cab aggregator Uber has launched a new app for its drivers globally based on inputs received from these partners, including those from India. He also said the company is stepping up the amount of data it shares with cities where it's active. Uber Rent will be introduced in San Francisco later this month, with a wider US rollout expected throughout the year. The scheme doesn't appear to have a catchy name just yet (Uber Transit?), but we do know that it involves mobile ticketing company Masabi. Making it easier for people to take multimodal journeys using shared private and public transit options together will help provide a real alternative to private auto ownership. Several cities have placed limits on the number of dockless bikes that can operate within them; without the structure of docks like those seen on New York's CitiBike, dockless bikes can pile up and clog sidewalks.

Arizona's governor suspended Uber's ability to test self-driving cars on public roads in the state following the crash.
