3 things to know about 'healthcare voters' in 2018 elections

AP Women break records for political giving before midterm elections More women give

For Democrats, the ultimate hope is to pick up enough seats in the next two election cycles - this year and 2020 - to have a more prominent voice, if not the upper hand, in shaping maps for congressional and state legislative seats come 2021.

At the state level, Governor candidate Mike DeWine received 1,386 votes from county Republicans while Mary Taylor garnered 1,199 votes.

Mainstream prevails in OH: A populist-oriented swing state that Trump won easily in 2016, OH could have been welcoming ground for fiery rebels on the left and the right. Voters also are divided nearly evenly over whether the country would be better off with the Democrats in control of Congress (31%) or with the GOP in charge (30%).

Those are the findings of a spreadsheet analysis prepared by Al Cross, director of the center housed in the University of Kentucky School of Journalism and Media.

This year no incumbents ran in the contests for sheriff and district attorney. Ten Democratic senators are running in states won by Trump in 2016. That margin has narrowed in the new poll; 48% said they'd rather choose a candidate who opposes Trump, while 43% prefer a candidate who supports the President.

In May 2016, about 37 percent of voters cast Democratic ballots and 63 percent cast Republican ballots. Thirty-nine percent of Republicans said Trump is not being framed; 29 percent were unsure.

OH voters don't register with a party.

Frank LaRose garnered 1,925 votes from the Republican party and Kathleen Clyde, 843 from the Democrat party for Secretary of State.

This year, Phillips said the Republican Party was pretty consistent with past years in the high teens to low 20's turnout. According to a recent online digital survey of more than 16,000 registered young adult American voters that are between the ages of 18 to 34, 46% would vote for Democrats, 28% would vote for Republicans, and 26% do not know or would vote for other candidates, if the congressional midterm elections were held today.

Both are in Eastern Kentucky, and both have small populations.

Michael V. Repella Jr. received the Republican nomination for Common Pleas Court judge with 2,025 votes. The Louisville area has 195,279 GOP-affiliated voters.

The numbers are vastly different among Democrats.

Davis said the results are not unexpected because Pitt County has a larger number or registered Democratic voters. The Second District, counties south of Louisville, has 264,219 Democrats to 242,964 Republicans.

Central Kentucky's Sixth District, which includes Scott County, has 305,185 Democrats and 211,545 Republicans. Judy Ward will challenge Daniel Kiss on the Republican ticket for the seat in the 30th District.

The rest, including the Sixth, all are represented by Republicans.
