#34 to forever belong to Thurman Thomas

BILLS
Bills retire Thurman Thomas' number The Buffalo Bills announced a huge honor for running back Thurman Thomas Wednesday

Thurman Thomas wore the number 34 during his time with the team.

The official retirement ceremony is set for October 29th, a Monday night game where the Bills host the New England Patriots. The Houston native finished his career with 12,074 rushing yards and 65 rushing touchdowns. "To be in the company of those two players is something special".

Born in Houston, TX, the Bills took Thomas in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft.

He was a star at Oklahoma State, as well. Thomas was college teammates with another legendary running back in Barry Sanders during the 1986 and 1987 seasons. In 1989 and 1990, his combined total yards from scrimmage was 3,742. It's a feat that only four other running backs, Sanders, Curtis Martin, Emmitt Smith and LaDainian Tomlinson achieved during their careers.

To steal one of the many replies from Bills fans to this tweet, this was LONG overdue.

He was voted to the All-Pro team in 1990 and 1991, was selected to 5 straight Pro Bowls from 1989-1993, and was named NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1991, after becoming the 11th player in National Football League history to finish a season with over 2,000 all-purpose yards.

Thomas was the AFC rushing leader in 1990, 1991, and 1993. 34 jersey will join Jim Kelly's No. 12 and Bruce Smith's No. 78 as the only jerseys the Bills have retired.
