Another Terror Attack in Indonesia — Travel Warning

Five dead in attack on Indonesian police headquarters

Indonesia National Police Chief Tito Karnavian told reporters Monday that officers were working on the assumption that the attacks followed a directive from ISIS central command to avenge the imprisonment of former leaders of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah, an Indonesian jihadi group that supports ISIS.

The attack is the latest in a spate of attacks in the country.

Tourists and Visitors should think twice before traveling to Indonesia, especially Bali as a wave of terror attacks have swept the country. "One of them is being checked by a bomb squad", he was quoted by Kompas TV as saying, referring to a suspected bomb strapped to the militant's body.

The attack comes as the Southeast Asian nation has been rocked by a series of deadly attacks on churches and a police station, involving multiple suicide bombings carried out by families, including young children.

No group has taken responsibility so far.

Indonesia's security forces have arrested hundreds of militants during a sustained crackdown that smashed some networks, and most recent attacks have been low-level and targeted domestic security forces.

But on Sunday, a family of six - including girls aged nine and 12 - staged suicide bombings of three churches during morning services in Surabaya, killing 13.

"Four suspects were killed by police personnel during the attack". Gen. Setyo Wasisto said in a press briefing in Jakarta.

State news wires Antara said that two journalists who were at the headquarters were also wounded.

Police have been frequent targets of mostly low level attacks by local militants, including a 2017 suicide bombing at a bus station in Jakarta that killed three police officers. One ran away but was later captured and taken to the Pekanbaru Police headquarters.
