BAFTA TV Awards Honor 'Peaky Blinders,' 'This Country,' 'Handmaid's Tale'

Adrian Dunbar as Ted Hastings in Line of Duty

The 2018 British Academy Television Awards took place last night, 13th of May, at the Royal Festival Hall in London. "Soon maybe they will be here as well because I think they deserve to be", he said during his acceptance speech.

Veteran actor Sean Bean took home the BAFTA for Leading Actor for his portrayal of a priest in the drama series "Broken". "But let me say I'll just be putting in half the effort".

Foy, 34, had been nominated for best actress for her role as the Queen in The Crown but lost out to Molly Windsor, 20, who won for Three Girls.

The award for factual series went to Ambulance, and Love Island won for reality or constructed factual.

"Three Girls was born out of the courage of the real three girls and the real Holly, Amber and Ruby that told this story over and over and over", Windsor said about the show's real-life subjects.

The show is up for best entertainment programme at Sunday's awards, alongside Britain's Got Talent and The Voice, also on ITV, and Michael McIntyre's Big Show (BBC One).

The TV nominees included our very own Sharon Horgan for the hilarious Catastrophe, who is pictured below with co-star Rob Delaney, Graham Norton for The Graham Norton Show, Sinead Keenan and Brian F O'Byrne for Little Boy Blue and Adrian Dunbar for Line of Duty.

Peaky Blinders scooped the top prize for Best Drama Series and the Best Comedy Entertainment Programme award was given to Murder in Successville.

Claire Foy, Hayley Atwell and Jodie Whittaker are among the stars who will represent the Time's Up movement at the Bafta television awards.

The catch-all drama acting categories pit the players in telefilms, miniseries and series against each other. It was his first ever Bafta win.

John Motson was honored with a special award on the same day he retired from sports commentary. Former Manchester United and England footballer Rio Ferdinand won for his documentary about the death of his wife and coping as a single father.
