It's become something of a trend to find major issues in messaging apps, with findings earlier this year of a problem with the iOS Messages app that could cause the app to crash when trying to load a preview of a specially crafted website, and most recently a bug found in WhatsApp that could cause similar crashes using a specific text string.

The simple emoji string contains thousands of hidden invisible Unicode characters, and causes the Messages app to freeze and crash as it overloads the applications memory. Meanwhile, you could overcome the issue by avoid opening a message containing the infamous black dot character. Called "Chat Filter", this new WhatsApp tool will allow users to quickly search through their messages, filtering them per unread chats, groups and broadcast lists.

This particular bug affects iOS 11.3 and the current iOS 11.4 beta version of Apple's mobile platform.

As detailed by YouTube channel EverythingApplePro, the "black dot" bug comes into action after an iOS user receives an ominous black dot message.

So before you go to settings and remove it remember you'll never see those messages and amusing photos and memes again.

Report confirms that there appears to be two variants of such kind of WhatApp message being forwarded.

If you don't have 3D Touch, the steps are slightly different. Users need to force-quit the Messages app on their devices and then open a New Message screen through a quick action by long-pressing the Messages app. Users will then be able to delete the conversation thread including the black dot message. Clicking on the black dot causes the crash to occur.

According to WhatsApp once you decide to delete your account, it is in an irreversible process that not even the app's creators can put back if you have done it by accident.
