Chief Inspector Unexpectedly Quits UN Nuclear Watchdog

Egypt said on Wednesday that Arab nations must be involved in any future efforts to amend the worldwide nuclear deal on Iran following U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from it.

He previously said the JCPOA's loss would be "a great loss for nuclear verification and for multilateralism".

President Donald Trump had announced at the White House that the United States would be withdrawing from the deal, and unilaterally begin reinstating economic sanctions against Iran at "the highest level".

In July 2015, Iran, five UN Security Council permanent members (Russia, Great Britain, China, the U.S. and France) and Germany reached a deal on settling Tehran's nuclear problem.

Known officially as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the deal between Tehran and major world powers forces Iran to open any site to the IAEA within 24 days at most.

It sets out rigorous mechanisms for monitoring restrictions placed on Irans nuclear programme, while paving the way for the lifting United Nations sanctions against the country. The US president added that another deal should be signed with Iran. The Iran deal is defective at its core.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief of inspections Tero Varjoranta has announced his resignation three days after the USA pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal. In January 2016, it was announced that the parties concerned had started implementing the Iran nuclear deal, following which Washington lifted its restrictions.

The comments were made by Khamenei while he addressed the Iranian government in a televised speech, "We hear that you want to continue the nuclear deal with the three European countries".

The UN watchdog has also repeatedly defended the landmark agreement, saying it is a gain for nuclear verification.

A permanent replacement will be appointed as soon as possible, the IAEA spokesperson said.
