Chinese star sprinter Su: Diamond League result beyond expectation

Britain's Reece Prescod burst out of nowhere to upstage world champion Justin Gatlin and beat the wet weather to win a thrilling 100m on the line in Shanghai on Saturday.

Prescod finished just 0.01 clear to frustrate what would have been a winning finale for the home country as world indoor silver medallist Su Bingtian had to settle for second ahead of compatriot Xie Zhenye, who clocked 10.17, 0.01 ahead of Ujah.

And Prescod believed the miserable conditions worked in his favour after hours of training in the rain back home.

Watson raced to a time of 55.23 seconds to finish 3rd in the women's 400m hurdles at the IAAF Diamond League stop in Shanghai, China.

"I train in these conditions all the time in the East Midlands (of England), it suits me".

"My expectation going in was I knew I had it in me (to win) as long as I executed my race". She went on to improve her mark to 66.85m in the third round and bowed out with a 66.26m to wrap up the victory, reports Xinhua news agency.

Damar Forbes' 7.99m was a season best but he could only manage a sixth place finish in the long jump event, which was won by China's Shi Yuhao, 8.43m.

There had been another powerful performance in the sprints by Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of Bahamas as she won the 200m in 22.06 to break the meeting record ahead of world 200m champion Dafne Schippers of Netherlands with a time of 22.34.

"It is just a start, I hope I can be better and better in the future, I have told my coach that I wanted to showcase my best form in Eugene, even just a little progress", he added.

In his first 110m hurdles race this year, Jamaica's world and Olympic champion Omar McLeod edged Spaniard Orlando Ortega in a repeat of the Rio Games to win in 13.16 seconds. Botswana's Isaac Makwala, 44.23 took second place in the highly-anticipated clash.

Colombia's Olympic gold medallist Caterine Ibarguen easily won the women's triple jump with 14.80 metres.

World record holder of Pole Vault, Lavillenie Renaud of France beat Lisek Piotr and Chinese athlete Xue Changrui with 5.81 meters.

Olympic 400m hurdles champion Dalilah Muhammad of the United States won in a season's best of 53.77, with Janieve Russell of Jamaica clocking a personal best of 53.78 in second place.

There was a dramatic finish in the women's 3000m steeplechase as Norah Jeruto slipped after the final barrier and Beatrice Chepkoech was left untroubled to claim the win in a world-leading 9:07.27 as Kenyan athletes filled the top six places.
