BREAKING Serious injuries reported after plane crash in Offaly

Emergency services remain at the scene where an air crash investigation continues.

The pilot is understood to be from the United Kingdom while the boy is the son of a member of the Parachute Club according to RTE.

Gardaí have said the aircraft took off from Clonbullogue Airfield with 16 parachutists on board at around 2.30pm.

However, a short time later the plane was seen flying low to the ground before there was a "terrible roar" and it crashed "straight down like a torpedo".

A Garda spokesman said 16 parachutists were on board the aircraft. "That roar will live with me for a while". It's understood the crash site is located away from the road.

In the crash of a light aircraft in Ireland killed the pilot of the aircraft and seven-year-old child, reports The Mirror.


Their bodies have been recovered within the past hour and are being brought to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore for a post-mortem examination.

Gardai and ambulance personnel rushed to the scene of the light plane crash in Offaly.

"You hear planes up there every day but you never think something like this would happen", he said.

A man and a young boy have been critically injured in a plane crash in Co Offaly.

Eddie Fitzpatrick, a local councillor, added the airfield is popular for parachuting and "fundraising jumpers".

Edenderry-based independent Councillor Noel Cribbin told the Irish Times that the whole community is in a state of shock at news of the accident.
