Injured Neuer in Germany's provisional squad, Emre Can left out

GETTYJoachim Loew has named his Gernany World Cup squad

Interestingly with Neuer's inclusion, Germany will now be taking four goalkeepers to Russian Federation and just two strikers in Mario Gomez and Nils Petersen, with Wagner perhaps the most surprising omission. He was one of four goalkeepers to be selected as Germany coach Joachim Loew gives him every chance of proving his fitness for the tournament in Russian Federation.

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner appears to have the centre-forward role locked down, while Mario Gomez and Sandro Wagner will vie for a back-up role with only one of them likely to make the final cut.

The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has not played since suffering a recurrence of a fractured foot in September, restricting him to just four appearances since the initial injury in April of previous year.

Reus, who missed half of this season through injury, was ruled out of the 2014 World Cup after being injured in Germany's last warm-up match. Sandro Wagner, though, misses out, despite an impressive season at Bayern Munich and the 30-year-old has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 34 appearances for the Bavarian giants thus far this term, and has also netted five goals for Germany in just eight caps.

He then suffered an setback and only resumed training in April, but could not get fit enough to play in any Bundesliga fixtures.

Injured Manuel Neuer was named in Germany's extended 27 man pre-World Cup squad on Tuesday, but there was no place for Brazil 2014 victor, Mario Goetze.

Germany are drawn in Group F alongside Mexico, Sweden and South Korea at this year's World Cup.
