IPL 2018: Royal Challengers get a lifeline

The Kiwi took two wickets but it wasn't enough for his Delhi Daredevils as Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers inspired the Royal Challengers to a win.

But the jubilant Delhi crowd soon fell silent as Kohli and de Villiers took over.

Royal Challengers Bangalore lived to fight another day in the Indian Premier League as the star duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers shared a scintillating 118-run stand off 64 balls to script a five wicket win over Delhi Daredevils here on Saturday night.

Batsmen on both sides thrived in this basement battle as the hosts looked on course for victory after a strong end to their innings in Delhi, with Abhishek Sharma posting an unbeaten 46 from 19 balls to set a target of 182. Lamichhane, thus, became the first player from Nepal to play in the IPL.

However, RCB are at present only a loss away from getting out of the tournament.

Earlier, asked to bat first, Delhi rode some power packed batting by Pant and talented teenager Abhishek Sharma to post a challenging total of 181/4. Lamichhane opened the bowling for DD, troubled Moeen Ali with his length before getting Parthiv Patel out leg before with a top-spinner.

A little later Chahal sent back Jason Roy in a similar fashion as the Englishman failed to read the wrong one off the Indian spinner's hands, leaving Delhi reeling at two for 16 in the third over. After this, the captain of Bangalore and Delhi boy Kohli played an outstanding inning of 70 runs from just 40 balls to make sure Bangalore have no more hiccups during his chase.

Pant played a major role in boosting the run rate. The left-hander put on 93 runs for the third wicket with his captain Shreyas Iyer, reaching his fifth fifty-plus score of the season in the process. AB de Villiers still out there and batting on 59.

Kohli hit seven fours and three sixes before he was caught behind off legspinner Amit Mishra while going for a drive over covers.

Tye once again got the breakthrough when Russell top-edged a short-pitched delivery and Karthik also holed out at long off after hitting five fours and three sixes.

Kohli eventually departed after a 40-ball 70.

Delhi suffered their first blow in the opening over itself when opener Prithvi Shaw was bowled while attempting a rather languid shot off Chahal's bowling.

The RCB have done alright lately with the ball and they would hoping to maintain that at the high-scoring Kotla.
